Clear architecture decisions through sound evaluations
Systematically analyze architecture quality, identify risks and make well-founded decisions.
Architecture evaluation is a key instrument for ensuring the quality of a design. It supports well-founded decisions about the further development of a project, promotes transparency and improves team communication.
Evaluate software architectures with confidence
A structured analysis makes it possible to systematically compare the current development status with the defined requirements.
In this training, you will learn various methods for the systematic evaluation of software architectures, including the Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM) and the Decision-Centric Architecture Review (DCAR).
While ATAM helps systematically identify architecture decisions and evaluate their impact on quality attributes, DCAR focuses on the targeted analysis and documentation of decision-relevant aspects.
In addition, other established evaluation methods are presented to provide you with a broad methodological repertoire for different application scenarios.
What can you expect?
The module “ARCEVAL – Architecture Evaluation” offers practice-oriented training in which you learn and apply methods for evaluating software architectures such as ATAM and DCAR.
You deepen your knowledge of quality scenarios, architecture decisions and evaluation processes.
The goal is to analyze, communicate and systematically improve architecture quality.
Participant prerequisites
- You should have basic knowledge of software architectures (views, concepts, decisions).
- Ideally, you have experience creating and maintaining architectures.
- Knowledge of typical challenges in architecture design will make it easier to get started.
- Experience in evaluating architecture quality and working with stakeholders is helpful.
- You should be able to understand and apply quality requirements and constraints.
Technical requirements
There are no special requirements for the training environment, as the exercises use cloud- and web-based tools such as Miro, Draw.io and platforms such as Jupyter or HuggingFace. Only a stable and sufficiently fast internet connection is required.
Your benefits
You learn to systematically analyze architecture quality, identify risks and apply evaluation results effectively in your projects.
Proven methods
You learn proven methods for evaluating software architectures and how to apply them to specific project situations.
Understand quality
You understand the relationship between software quality, architecture decisions and their impact.
Quality scenarios
Sie können Quality scenarios erheben, dokumentieren und für Architekturbewertungen nutzen.
ATAM & DCAR
You gain practical skills for scenario-based workshops and techniques such as ATAM or DCAR.
Existing systems
You evaluate existing systems and their architecture in terms of implementation and quality.
Communicate results
You communicate evaluation results effectively and integrate them into iterative development processes.

Our trainersParticipant feedback
The training was very practical and interactive. It was especially helpful that we did not just discuss the content, but applied it directly using concrete examples.
— Participant feedback on the ARCEVAL training
The ATAM example particularly helped me to really understand the method and recognize its value for the structured evaluation of software architectures.
— Participant feedback on the ARCEVAL training
For me, it was particularly valuable to see how quality requirements and risks can be evaluated systematically and how the results can be communicated clearly within the team.
